Born on 22 March 19994 he is presently twenty- six years of age and hopes are well lashed on him for the future.  Born at a small place of Thalangara he had to make his way through great struggles right from the narrow-green streets of Kerala to the world of sweaty sport for his passion paved him to pursue his dream and get a chance to play for his national team one day.

The 26-year-old from Thalangara in north Kerala’s Kasaragod town, known for its love for cricket rather than football, said the blistering knock would have surely pleased his brother Kamaruddeen, who had changed his youngest brother’s name from Ajmal to Azharuddeen after his birth.

Azharuddeen has seven brothers and all are big-time cricket fans.

“My family is a cricket family. I have seven elder brothers. Everyone has played cricket. Obviously they follow the game when I play. Even if they don’t watch, they used to follow the scorecard,” he added.

Named After His Brothers Idol – Mohammad Azharuddin

“I have met him like twice or thrice. Once in my hometown and once in Hyderabad when we were there to play Ranji Trophy and he was the head coach of Hyderabad. I shared the story of how I was named after him with Mohammad Azharuddin sir,” Azharuddeen told PTI.

“To be frank, like my elder brother, I did not follow Azharuddin sir. I have just watched a few videos of his on Youtube,” the Kerala stumper added.

Azharuddeen Domestic Career

While the first step towards fulfilling his family’s dream was taken when he was chosen to represent Kerala in 2015, he shot into the national limelight recently with his 37-ball 100 in the domestic T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Mumbai.

He made his first-class debut on 15 November 2015 in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy. The right hand batsman has played 22 first class matches, scoring 959 runs at an average of just about 25 runs. In the 21 T20s he has played so far, the youngster has scored 404 runs, which includes his astonishing knock of 137 runs at the Wankhede.

Also, he said Azharuddeen has done well since age-group cricket and has come through the system.

“He has come through the system. Since his young days he has shown a lot of promise and was admitted to the Kerala Cricket Association Academy in Kottayam,” the coach added.

The 2015–16 Ranji Trophy was the 82nd season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It was contested by 27 teams divided into three groups of nine teams each. The top three teams from Groups A and B advanced to the quarterfinals along with the top two teams from Group C.

For this season the schedule splits into two stages, the first is a league stage and the second being a knock-out stage. The league stage starts on 1 October 2015 and ends on 4 December 2015 and the knock-out stage starts on 3 February 2016 and ends on 28 February 2016.

The 2015–16 Ranji Trophy will be followed by the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

He made his Twenty20 debut on 2 January 2016 in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Kerala opening batsman, Mohammad Azharuddeen played an incredible knock, scoring 137 runs in just 54 balls to help his side defeat Mumbai in the Syed Mustaq Ali encounter.

Azharuddeen brought up his century in just 37 balls at the Wankhede stadium. Chasing a steep target of 197 runs, it was the 26-year old’s innings that helped Kerala register their second successive victory in the tournament.

The youngster smashed 11 sixes in his innings and registered the joint third-fastest 100 in T20 cricket by an Indian batsman.

With this victory, Kerala move to the top of the Elite Group E points table, after winning both their opening matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai were thrashed by Delhi by 76 runs in their first round, and lost to Kerala today which puts them on bottom of Group E.

Delhi have also registered two wins in as many games along with Haryana. This leaves Group E with three teams on 8 points, whereas the other three teams are yet to open their account in the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy 2021.

India’s young flamboyant batsman Mohammed Azharuddeen has been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 20 Lakh in the IPL 2021 Auction held on Friday. Azharuddeen’s base price was 20 Lakh rupees and he was bought at his base price itself. Royal Challengers Banglore have already bought Glenn Maxwell in the auction.

“I like to hit straight. One of my strengths is hitting straight. I am good at hitting straight, against fast bowling and spin bowling. It was a true wicket (in the game against Mumbai) and I batted with confidence,” he added.

Asked if he was looking forward to the IPL auction scheduled next month, Azharuddeen said he was not too worried about it.

“I am in a good zone. I am not worried about the IPL auction or something. I am just concentrating on our fourth match against Andhra,” he said.
